Tang Dynasty (Chinese: 唐朝) are often credited as being the first heavy metal band in the Republic of China. They were formed in February 1989 and the very first line up lasted until June 1989 when, after the facts of Tien An Men Square the band split up and some members were forced by the authorities to leave the country.A new line up was created in October 1989.

They participated to the very first rock metal festival in 1990, "90现代音乐会 / '90 Modern Concert" with two songs. The singer at the time was Zhang Ju.
