"Svartby" means "Blackvillage" in Swedish.
The band's early lyrics are written in Swedish. The translations were poorly done, but since their first album, Svartby has had their lyrics proofread by Swedish people before any recordings or publications.
The band's discography covers the various magical creatures that inhabit the "svartby," envisioned as dark and evil fairytales created by keyboardist/lyricist Giftsvamp. He has also claimed that they will never write songs about trolls.
