Slartibartfast is a character from Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy humorous sci-fi novel series. ("Slartibartfaß" in the German translation) In the story, he works for a company that builds planets and -during assembly of the Earth- designed the Norwegian fjords himself. According to an interview, the name was chosen by the band to establish a Nordic connection without limiting themselves to typical themes that come with the genre. Also, it "doesn't sound clichéd".
