Formed originally in December 1999 as an ambient project of HerraV and Mustamato. No recordings of that era was ever made but the group evolved as The Guild of the Runescatchers and began to make runestones in the old fashioned way with hammer and chisel. Kilta is finnish word for a guild.

The music side was never really buried and surfaced occasionally during the gatherings of the Guild. Finally at spring of 2014 the first recordings were made and the first album "Elonkehä" was finished at July.

The paganism has always been a crucial part of Kilta and they have several altar sites where they gather to sacrifice and pray for the gods of yore.
