Black Kalmar Skull INTERVIEW 21/12/20

Black Kalmar Skull is a one man band from Italy born in 2011, that  combines rock-metal, melancholic, ambient , euphoric, cold and relaxing melodies. We interviewed Matteo Zanforlin to find out more about his very interesting project.

ABM: What was your first contact with Metal?

Matteo: My first contact with Extreme Metal was with Children of Bodom, heard by a classmate

ABM: How did the idea for Black Kalmar Skull came to life?

Matteo: The Idea was purely to create good music

ABM: Where did the band name come from?

Matteo: The name is completed invented and has no real meaning

ABM: advantages and disadvantages of being a one man band?

Matteo: The advantage is to create what You Want Without compromise, a disavvantage could be you have to have extremely good in all to play all by yourself

ABM: What inspires you? Is there a particular band that inspired you? tell us about your favorite musicians

Matteo: I have different music tastes, I like from prog rock and prog pop to Extreme metal, But I like all melodic and well done stuffs. My favourite bands are Genesis, Supertramp, Mike Oldfield, Pink Floyd. In metal my favourite bands are dark Tranquillity and insomnium.

ABM: What is your view in Satanism and Occultism/esotericism?

Matteo: I have no particolar views on that, I prefer a life cult instead of a death cult simply. 

ABM: tell us about "To All Whom I Loved" and the differences from previous albums, How have you developed since you started with the music?

Matteo: Thank You for this question, I started getting every album more melodic. I abandoned with the time extremely negative songs like "separate worlds", it's good I did it but I don't Want to feed the fire of negativity. My music is melancholic but with the time My music turned more in a positive melancholy rather than a more negative like the first 2 albums in the complex. To all whom I loved is an emotional album and very " Stay positive " Way. I am very statisfied with the sound mastering of it Together with "The medleys" EP.

ABM: What are the lyrics about?

Matteo: The lyrics in general were always about life and feelings, sometimes a critic to modern society.

ABM: Which of the songs you have composed so far is your favorite? and why?

Matteo: I have many from this new one and the previous, but if we talk about the first albums and EP I would say "New horizons" And "Horizons of Haze".
You can find some of my Favourites on "The medleys" EP, I definitevely gave them a better and worth sound.

ABM: Where did you record your albums?

Matteo: I record and mix/mastering my albums at home.

ABM: What are your plans for the future?

Matteo: Keeping on creating music, I realized I did so little of what I can create :)

ABM; Do you have something to add? Tell us about something you wanted to make known and that you never revealed.

Matteo: I add something that goes not only for me but for all Music and bands. Listen full albums and not on phone and if you Like it support it buying. There are new good music who needs to go out not from greedy labels.
