The band was formed in 2001 by Agathe (keyboards, choirs), and a first recording was made in June 2003, called L'Eveil de l'Ame (8 tracks/38 minutes), but never released due to its poor quality.
Gaëlle joined the band in September 2003 and adventure begun. The first demo L'Aube Morne (5 tracks/20 minutes) was recorded in September 2004 and was quickly sold out.
On December 2005, Artesia signed a deal with Prikosnovenie, a french label specialized in faërie and world music. The first album Hilvern was published on February 2006 and takes place in the "NOVE" collection of the label.
In June 2007, the new album Chants d'Automne is out.
In 2008, Gaelle left the band for personal reasons. Agathe worked on the third album, helped by Loïc and Coralie, a young violinist, and Llydaw was out in Februar 2009 on a limited digipack edition, with T-Shirts and Black Box Collector. In July 2009, Coralie decided to leave the band and Gaëlle came back.
In early 2011, Agathe and Gaëlle started to work with producer Jean-Charles Wintrebert, composer-arranger at 22 dB, they released Wanderings.
In 2017 a new EP, En cette fin de jour, was created by the band. They made a very limited edition on CD.
They now work on new tracks and are planning a new release in 2020.
