The band was formed by guitarist Alexander Vasilopoulos and vocalist John Georgopoulos in 1987 under the name Ragnarok. The idea was to create a power/epic metal band with influences that range from Middle Eastern to European folk music. The name changed to Airged L'amh in 1996 because of the existence of two other bands with the same name.

The band name is (mis-spelt) Celtic/Irish for "Armed Hand".

Compilation appearances:
- "The Wedding" on Warzone 1 (Metal Invader, 1997, CD)
- "One Eyed God" on Fire and Steel 2 (1997, cassette)
