Like Rain In a Forest - 90%

Htogad, April 22nd, 2007

This album is truly a jewel.
It consists of three tracks: Ater Nox, Ater Nox Pt2 and The Hidden Astral Garden.
All tracks are instrumental. All tracks have background sounds of thunders and of rain. I can't imagine what this album would be like if vocals were used on it.
From the minute it starts till the minute it ends it presents us with sophisticated feelings, even though all tracks are very simple, made of two-three riffs on guitar.
Ater Nox and Ater Nox part 2 remind me of first two minutes of Burzum's Det Som Engang Var (the song, not the album). Det Som Engang Var's excellent distant, gloomy atmosphere can be noticed through this album.
This album is made to be listened just like Burzum's: the listener is induced to trance state by repeating song structures (in case of Ad Lustrum, that would be tracks 1 and 2) and then comes a song which manages to relax the listener and to completely empty his mind from all worries (The Hidden Astral Garden).
The Hidden Astral Garden is the most peaceful song on this album. Hell, it's the most peaceful song ever.
I can't think of a single negative side of this album. Maybe it's only cons is its length.
This is the only album that has ever made me feel like I was standing in a forest during rain.

On the official site (which is, by the way, extremely beautiful and totally reflects the nature of Ad Lustrum's music) there is no useable info about upcoming releases. I can't wait to see full album.

Get this album, especially if you like to listen to ambient and to Burzum. If nothing else, you can play The Hidden Astral Garden at any time and relax yourself with sounds VERY pleasing to the ear.
